The SpikerKitten
(Click on the links to see pictures of Spike)
Spike was one of the RugKittens from Whisper's last litter. He was the biggest of the bunch, but was never aggressive with the other cats. In fact, Spike and Banshee were always together. During the day, these two often napped together. At night, when Banshee would go to sleep in my arms, her purring would make Spike curious and he would climb through the cats on the bed to sleep next to her. I could see his white breast in the dark as he nosed around her, trying to find a place to sleep.
Spike's favorite perch was on the back of our loveseat. He'd jump up and sprawl there, with one paw hanging down. And if another RugCat tried to take his spot, he would jump up and challenge the offender--and he always won. But if it was Banshee, he would simply try to lie next to her somehow.
About two weeks before the RugKittens' first birthday, Spike developed pneumonia. The vet gave us medication for him and he seemed to be getting better. But the medicine stopped working. Rick took him back to the vet, but we were too late. Spike died a week before his first birthday. We were and still are devastated about his death and we still miss him terribly. He was a wonderful RugKitty. We pray that Spike and Pita are playing together at the Rainbow Bridge.
